A couple of weeks ago, I was contacted by the folks at Nokia USA and asked if I would check out their new Lumia 1020 phone. 41 megapixels? In your pocket? I was like, “Absolutely!”. After shooting with it for a bit, I have to say I really enjoyed much of the experience (haven’t gotten to use it as a “phone” per se, as Its an AT&T plan while i’m on Verizon).
I was then asked if I would be interested in heading out to Oberkochen, Germany to check out some more stuff with the phone, and speak to some of the folks at Carl Zeiss, AG.
Wait. Carl Zeiss? The folks that make the sharpest lenses for -any- camera. Hands down. THAT Carl Zeiss?
As a camera nerd.. you can see the excitement brewing here.
So… tomorrow morning I shove off to Stuttgart, Germany to go meet up with the crew. Originally scheduled to come back on Wednesday, I extended my trip by a few days to head out to one of my most favorite cities in the world – Prague in the Czech Republic. I’ll be heading down to Prague from Stuttgart from Wed to Sat. Then driving back to Stuttgart and flying home next Sunday.
Germany has always had a soft spot in my heart ever since I lived there several years ago (used to live in the east – Jena, specifically when I worked for Intershop . Man I wish I were headed out to the Zeiss offices in Jena as well). Getting back there puts a big smile on my face.
If anyone in Germany or Prague want to hang out whilst out there, hit me up.. happy to try to make it work.
